Step 1
Upload your picture
A face, a pet, a place. Strong light and shadow read best, because the shadows are what you end up seeing.
Step 2
Crop it and size it
Move and zoom the picture inside the keychain, turn it upright, and set the millimetres. The price follows the size.
Step 3
Check it lit
The preview shows what the piece looks like against a lamp, which is how a lithophane is meant to be read.
Step 4
We print and send it
Printed in white so the light carries through, with the keyring hole ready for a ring.
Questions people ask
- What is a lithophane?
- A lithophane is a thin plate whose thickness follows a picture: dark parts are thick and block light, pale parts are thin and let it through. Held up to a lamp, or a phone torch, the picture appears.
- Which photos work best?
- Photos with a clear difference between light and dark. A face lit from one side reads beautifully. Very dark photos, or busy backgrounds, tend to turn into mush — crop in close on the subject.
- How big can a keychain be?
- The sizes and prices on this page are the ones we make. Larger lithophanes, like panels and lamp shades, are made to order — ask us and we will quote it.
- How long does it take?
- A keychain prints in a few hours. We confirm your order, print it, check it against a light, and send it. You can follow the job from your account.
- Can I see it before you print?
- Yes. The preview on this page is built from the same picture data we print from, including the lit view, so what you approve is what comes out of the printer.
